Kaniksu’s Clinical Pharmacist, Brad Owens, encourages patients of all ages to take control of their own health care and view him as a tool which can help them achieve their goals. His clinical interests and expertise include chronic disease management, diabetes, anticoagulation, medication management, and medication monitoring. Brad studied at Albany College of Pharmacy in Albany, NY., and received his B.S. in Microbiology from Idaho State University. Prior to joining the KCH team he worked retail pharmacy at Sandpoint Super Drug and White Cross pharmacy both in Sandpoint.
When asked about his practice philosophy, he replied "I think rural medicine is unique, we don’t have all the specialties and availability of family practice physicians as cities. So adding a pharmacist to a team of health care providers is one way we can bring better medicine to rural communities.”
Of his time with KCH, Brad feel that "So far patients really have appreciated the amount of time I am able to spend with them. I think patients also value the knowledge that I share with them about how their medications work, why we are using them, why we are increasing a dose or decreasing a dose and what goals we are trying to achieve with their medications.”
Born and raised in Coeur d’Alene, Brad now calls Sandpoint home, along with his wife, two children and a Jack Russell Terrier named Petey. He enjoys spending time at the cabin and on the lake, hiking to mountain lakes, camping, dirt bike riding, snow skiing, basically everything that North Idaho offers.
