Video visits with your provider

Kaniksu Community Health patients can now utilize Telehealth  appointments for medical and behavioral health appointments.  Learn more below.
What is Telehealth?
Telehealth is the use of telecommunication technologies (i.e. a phone, computer, handheld device) to evaluate, diagnose and care for patients at a distance for approved medical or behavioral health visits.  Telehealth is appropriate for many primary care and follow-up visits.

Why Telehealth?
Telehealth allows providers to remotely monitor patients, as well as conduct appointments such as routine patient checks, medication refills, and annual wellness visits - all without person-to-person contact. You can do the visit from anywhere that you feel offers you enough privacy, and connectivity (cell reception, wifi, etc).  Telehealth also lets you see your provider while managing your many other responsibilities.

How do I pay for Telehealth?
Your visit will be billed to your insurance, just like any other visit.
How to schedule a Telehealth visit with your provider
  • Call your local clinic and request a telemedicine appointment with your primary care provider
    • Sandpoint, (208) 265-6252
    • Priest River, (208) 448-2321
    • Bonners Ferry, (208) 267-1718
    • Pediatrics, (208) 265-2242
  • All of our Telehealth appointments are held via Doximity.  Below are some helpful instructions for using the program.  When you schedule your first Telehealth appointment, the instructions will also be emailed to you.
How to join your first Dialer Video call
  1. You will receive a text from 882-86 inviting you to a video call.
  2. Click the link in the text message to join the call.
  3. This will bring you to the Doximity app.
  4. You will get a prompt asking you to "allow camera and microphone." Make sure you allow access to camera and microphone.
  5. You will be be placed in a virtual waiting room as your wait for your nurse to join the call.
  6. Once this portion of the visit is complete, you will both end the call, and you will receive a second text with a new link.
  7. This link will place you in the virtual waiting room to see your provider.
  8. Once you are done with your provider, you will be transferred to a staff member who will help you schedule further appointments.
If you have never been a participant on a Dialer Video call, refer to these tips to ensure success.

Frequently Asked Questions
What browser do I need to accept a Dialer Video call?
Dialer Video calls are done without downloading a special app and work with the Web Browser on your Smartphone or computer. Here are supported browsers.

I am having trouble connecting to a video call. Any ideas?
Make sure you have a strong Internet connection; video calls can be joined using wifi or cellular data. Still having issues? Check out our tips for good call quality.

Can I participate on the video call on my computer?
Dialer Video relies on text message to initiate a conversation. However, with an additional step you can join on your computer. Here's how.

I am not able to video call because my audio and camera aren’t working, how do I fix this?
In order to join a video call you must enable your camera and microphone. Here's how.

Why does it try to launch Doximity when I click on the link texted to me?
As a patient you do NOT need the Doximity application on your phone to use Dialer Video. Please delete it. We understand that doctors can be patients too (and that often you want to do a test drive on your phone "as a patient") but at this time the Doximity app cannot be on your phone if you are connecting to the video call as the recipient of a text invite.

NOTE:   Using the Doximity Dialer Video feature will use your standard cellular data.
Tips for Good Dialer Video Call Quality
Video calls can be joined using wifi or cellular data. A poor connection on either can lead to a dropped call or inability to connect. Since the invitation to a video call is sent via text, most Dialer Video calls are taken on the phone. Here are some tips to ensure quality calls:
  • Check browser requirements: Dialer Video works on most modern phones. If in doubt, please check that your browser meets the minimum requirements.
  • Try another network:  Slow to connect? Sometimes switching your connection helps. On your phone, go to settings. If having trouble on cellular, turn on Wifi and try another call. If vice versa, turn off Wifi and try again.
  • Move closer to your router: If your wifi signal is poor, positioning yourself close to your router will likely improve it, or try rebooting your router.
  • Disconnect other devices from your network: Every device connected to your wifi network will take up bandwidth. If your network cannot handle the stress, try disconnecting other devices.
  • Your internet connection is unstable' message: If you receive the following message, 'Your internet connection is unstable', we suggest that you leave the video call and try rejoining to see if that resolves the issue.
